The matter of youngsters who 'get there' and then don't have the motivation to continue is both nonsensical and perfectly logical.

It's nonsensical because despite being so young, there has to be some understanding as to how hard or talented you have to be, just to get to age 20 and be a 'professional' anything.

Then again, it's perfectly logical, because you've 'got there', and the next part is even harder. You still have to have the same desire or greater and keep battering away and stay fit. You have to carry on working hard, improve, just to stay level with everyone else, and then improve more to get better.

A lot of the stuff you would want to do at 16-22 isn't possible. It's all about how single minded you can be.

I don't doubt that- and I also have complete faith in him. If the club are letting Borg go, then I trust in their decision. (However, I did trust in the decision making in the past few years as well)

Just funny how the release of any youngster, let alone one as talked about as Borg used to be met with outrage about the previous manager killing the youth policy etc.

Put it this way- if Allardyce was still in charge and Borg was released, this thread would read very differently.

Re: Oscar Borg joining Aston Villa on a permanent deal
Ex WHU employee says that according to Westley Borg didn't progress and that's the problem for a lot of youngsters. They get too much money too soon and it stops their progress unless they are very self-motivated.

Every professional footballer that makes it needs self-motivation and self-belief as much as skill to make it. Earning more than £100k pa as a teenager tells them they have arrived...

El, does it strike you that most fans finally have faith in our manager?

Re: Oscar Borg joining Aston Villa on a permanent deal
If this had happened a year ago, this thread would probably be about 500 posts long by now, almost every one of them screaming bloody murder about the manager.

Borg looked very poor at Derby in the FA Youth cup game. No where near the same level as Oxford and Cullen. He wont be featuring in Villa's first team next season even in the Champs IMO

Why would Reece Oxford leave us, he's on the bench every single match, and he's 17!

Get used to it, young prospect looking at first team possibilities and sees a long wait, so fucks off to get it. Good call by him.

See also Samuelson to us and Oxford perhaps also leaving

Its the price of success
